Bartercard Charity Foundation Update

Bartercard Charity Foundation Has Won Its First Business Award

The Bartercard Foundation has been recognized as a finalist in this year’s Gold Coast Chambers of Commerce Business Award – Non Profit / Community Organisations. This award was presented at a Gala Awards Dinner held at the Currumbin RSL on Thursday 28th November and was attended by a wide cross section of Gold Coast businesses including several representatives from the not for profit sector.

Brisbane & Gold Coast Christmas Trade Shows
This year the Bartercard Foundation took a stand at both the Brisbane and Gold Coast Christmas Trade Shows. As well as providing increased Foundation awareness to the Bartercard members and staff who attended, these events also presented the opportunity to raise much needed funds. Children’s books donated by Brisbane East member, Wombat Books, were available for sale and Bartercard Australia provided raffle prizes of two 3 Night Family Stay packages at the Yamba Angourie Rainforest Resort . Winner of the Brisbane raffle was Kym Power from Rejuvenators Health Massage, New Farm (Brisbane North member) and Tony Nest from Miami Denture Clinic (South Gold Coast member) won the second draw.I

In addition to the trade dollars raised in the raffles, a portion of the auction held at the Gold Coast Show was gifted to the Foundation meaning that over the two days a total in excess of T$3,000 was raised. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this great result.

Burleigh Heads State School – Early Childhood Development Project

Work is just about to commence on this project which incorporates the refurbishment of two existing classrooms and the creation of a community hub where parents of young children with newly diagnosed disabilities can meet with other like families for information evenings and support. The Bartercard Charity Foundation is combining with the Matt Rogers charity 4ASDKids, Peddle Thorp Architects and Condev Construction Pty Ltd to undertake this project so that children, teachers and parents can move into a much improved facility when first term commences in 2014.
This project is very close to our hearts because we have a Bartercard Head Office staff member, Emily Johnson, whose daughter Alora attends this centre. Emily has a firsthand appreciation of how much this project will mean to all concerned.
