On Trend: coffee for dogs

There are countless styles, varieties, and ways for people to drink coffee.  Now a local Gold Coast establishment is serving a pet-friendly alternative to the caffeinated drink.

Coolangatta’s Black Sheep Espresso Baa is dishing out ‘puppuccinos’ to dogs - a variation of the cappuccino trending amongst pet owners.

It’s lactose-free milk frothed, dusted with carob, topped with a dog biscuit and served in a pet bowl.

Owner of The Black Sheep Espresso Baa’s Dinesh Nair, who started his business with Bartercard, said people can expect to see more dog owners treating their pets when they pick up their coffee fix.
“It’s more popular in Europe than Australia right now but yes, we are seeing more pet owners ordering these,” said Dinesh.

He said another drink trending is latte bowls.

“We see more customers drinking their coffee out of a bowl; again it’s a style more common in Europe that’s picking up with Gold Coasters.”

Dinesh opened the doors to his espresso bar last month outside the new Coolangatta precinct.

He used a $25,000 interest-free line of credit from Bartercard to cover the cost of the some equipment and trade work to help start his business.

Apart from puppuccinos and certified organic Toby's coffee, The Black Sheep Espresso Bar does a la carte breakfast and lunch.  All ingredients are locally sourced.

Coolangatta locals - next time you pick up your cappuccino, latte, espresso or macchiato, drop into The Black Sheep Espresso Baa, 72 – 80 Marine Parade Coolangatta, and treat your pet too.
