Cutting costs a snip for Bartercard bride Yasmin

A GOLD Coast bride found a novel way to beat the blowout price tag of a wedding with all the frills by using Bartercard to pay for her special day.

Hairdresser Yasmin Addlington, owner of Bei Capelli Hair in Mermaid Waters, traded haircuts for everything from limousine hire to her honeymoon accommodation.

She saved $15,000 in cash by using Bartercard, the world's largest trading system, to pay for much of her August wedding.

In exchange for trade dollars she had earned styling -clients' hair, Mrs Addlington booked a celebrant to conduct the ceremony, secured professional photography and videography services for the day, and arranged limousines to transport her bridal party to the venue at Boomerang Farm in Mudgeeraba.
Invitations and personalised chocolates for her guests were also covered. Bartercard's directory includes 80 dedicated wedding service providers across Australia.

"I joined Bartercard when I purchased the salon in 2013 as a way to grow our client base and network with other business owners," Mrs Addlington said.

"It has been very useful in attracting a number of loyal clients to our business, who then spread the word to others if they were happy with the service we provided.

"After we decided to get married, I sat down with my now husband to discuss our wedding budget and then thought I would try to save up barter dollars to see if I could use Bartercard in planning the wedding.

"We received fantastic service from every member we traded with, they were all very professional and went above and beyond for us." Mrs Addlington said she was even able to splurge on items such as pre-wedding accommodation for her bridesmaids at a Surfers Paradise resort, and two stretch Hummers for her guests, while the newlyweds enjoyed a weeklong honeymoon at a Sunshine Coast hinterland retreat, also paid for through the Bartercard network.

With research showing Australian couples spending an average of $36,200 tying the knot, Bartercard founder and South Gold Coast principal Andrew Federowsky said barter trade provided a creative solution to planning a wedding without making sacrifices or plundering savings."Our members are using Bartercard in any number of creative ways, from covering essentials for their business, to spending on a range of personal services and luxury goods," he said.
