A YEAR is a long time in business and for staff at Bartercard South West it has been long enough for them to become established as one of the best branches in the world.
After opening in January last year, regional manager Darryl Toreaux and his team set about establishing the unique business’ individual trading system and reputation.
Bartercard is a barter system that helps businesses trade excess stock, downtime, spare capacity or vacant seats with another business.
Mr Toreaux and his team began with just 153 businesses on board, but have since increased that by 180 per cent.
They smashed his original goal of $3.5 million worth of transactions in 12 months by more than $1 million and have set personal bests for gaining clientele. All this has led to the South West business being named International Branch of the Month for the past seven months, beating others from seven different countries.
In their new premises on Prinsep Street they are gaining even more popularity, with foot traffic as well as word of mouth giving them more and more customers.
Mr Toreaux said Bartercard’s success came about because of how good businesses were in the region.
“We have had great feedback about our international launch of mybc and customers are happy with our networking functions,” he said.
“This year we are looking for new growth in the south west with a major focus on business, construction and tourism.”
“If they’re a small or medium business with a little room for customer capacity we can fill it.”
